Sailing the Sea of Cortez
Captain Craig.Jimmy fixing the reel.Skip 'casual' not posed.our boat LG. red sky at morning.... yeah, whatever!
Dec 21 . La Paz, Mexico ON LAND.
i have only a moment before i have to run catch the ferry boat from la paz to los mochis. we arrived this morning from sailing and have really had a great time. Craig and Jimmy are gone now on a bus back to Cabo and flights home tomorrow. I WILL RIDE THE FERRY ACROSS to los mochis and the mainland to catch the Copper Canyon train.
i am having some challenges here in the hotel lobby sending the wireless internet photos. it has taken me over an hour to get a connection. now im frantically sending and writing as i must run to the ferry.
my ´PLAN´is to catch the ferry and then the train to the top of the mountains on mainland mexico. photograph some of the copper canyon and eventually make my way back to the shore, cabo, and the plane 12.29.
THE BOAT was a wild ride. we had mild wind the first two days and then gradually increasing wind till yesterday when she blew like crazy. we had large seas and a fantastic blow all day just from the correct direction to hurry us along before the waves to our anchorage for the night. we had spent four days going north and then returned 43 miles on the last day by catching a huge wind and opening all our sails and just hanging on. lots of fun.
WE (read Jimmy) caught fish for two dinners and enjoyed our shore side provisions the other nights. great trip. 41 foot Bennatau with three cabins. my knees are all beat up from bumping into everything under sail. dont get me started about my bruised head. this boat was NOT built for anyone my height. cabins were ´small´and tight but i had enough leg room to stretch out and sleep. hot coffee, cold beer, deep freezer and apparently bottomless food stores made for a most enjoyable trip. all this via Moorings boat charters.
i have to run. you please all enjoy peace on earth, christmas and joy while i party on in the mountains of mexico.
