Landed in Leon Guanajuato about 1pm and quickly cleared customs. I found my shuttle service with no problem. A little girl with a sign said my name. (not many other tall American looking guys going by) I was the only person in the Van. Just my driver and I for the one hour drive through the mountains. He drove me right to the Hotel door. It’s a cute little place with a rambling courtyard. (As though everything were built one room at a time, year after year. Like a child might stack blocks, turned and piled on.) My room is on the second floor facing the street. (I heard a vendor walking down the street barking out his wears) I have 2 windows that open out onto the street so I have a nice view and plenty of fresh air. Speaking of air – it was ‘warm’ today. Mid 70’s – 79. warm in the sun and very nice in the shade. It didn’t really cool off till 7pm. It’s pleasant in the room with the windows closed all night. There is a single little propane heater in the room. Not really necessary except it would feel good at 6am if you were bathing. (little white fire starter heaters about 1ft square)
I took a ‘travel resting nap’ for an hour when I got settled then walked around the block before dinner. Lots of very old, very tall walls. The dinner was excellent.
Dinner:
Soup: spinach - pureed
Tossed green salad
Pork tenderloin medalions in red sauce picante, green beans and ‘cooked’ cantaloupe (served hot)
Pumpkin pie
Breakfast 8a-10a service
comes with fresh squeezed Orange Juice and fruit. a selection of banana, pineapple, papaya, grapefruit, cantaloupe. in addition you have eggs cooked to your choice, toast. for a 'small amount' more you can add ham or bacon. i chose pancakes with my coffee and fruit. this was no extra charge. also a choice between; oatmeal, french toast.
I cant confirm the altitude is ‘too bad’, but I am tired, drinking water like a horse and get winded walking up the hills. I’ll give it a day and then see.
My plan today is to have a nice breakfast then walk to the center Jardin. Maybe find a coffee shop to send this email. I don’t have wireless internet at the hotel. Then I’ll be reading my first Lee Child novel. Also, I have to have a ‘day after’ travel nap today. I think here they are called siestas and everyone has one! It’s a great place.
I’ve signed up with Ruth to share Christmas Dinner here at the Le Mansion del Bosque hotel.
WELL, i found an internet cafe. much up and down hill walking! it's $1 per hour, so i can afford to 'work.' gotta run now. have to find the Center of town and a place for my lunch....
