Exuma Sailing Club Regatta

I am delinquent in my follow-up and sorry about that.  It's a very challenging balancing act to 'SEE' everything and still have time and energy enough to share my findings.  This past weekend i wanted to 'watch' the first annual children's Exuma Sailing Club Regatta...   (tee shirt photo)  Then Sunday i had beach church (photo with Kitty) and day 2 of the regatta in the afternoon.  Both days i came back to Prodigal and was so tired i managed a sandwich and shower then fell asleep.

Saturday i arrived early to the Regatta carrying my entire camera bag with all my lenses.  As i got to the viewing stand and was walking around the dock i met a mature lady - Jan Pehrson - "THE Regatta photographer." ((janpehrson.com) She walked up with her camera bag about the same time the official regatta race boat came up to the dock.  Jan jumped on and they all looked at me and said, "aren't you coming too?"  So i replied - "YES", and jumped aboard as well.  This was about 10:15am and we were out on the bay taking photos till about 5:30pm.  THEN we had to gather the kids boats and the race buoy's....   I got home about 6pm.  I was mentally prepared for about 3 or 4 hours of Regatta and got more than i bargained for.  Sunday i went back again for the 2pm start and rode the boat and photographed the awards ceremony ending about 7pm.

There were 3 classes / styles / types and sizes of boats, requiring three separate races.  All 3 classes did multiple races.  It was a controlled zoo atmosphere.  Imagine 8 year olds to 15 yoa on the water sailing around.  lots of laughter!  Yes they turned their boats over, but they up-righted them by themselves and jumped right back into the race.  About 2:30pm a Rain Squall blew through and ALL the kids kept sailing.  I got soaked to the bone and was cold...   (i put my camera in a trash bag to keep dry)(the bag was too small for me to climb in)  Then the sun popped back out and nobody took a break.  Just for fun, after i dried out, it rained again about 4pm.

I took about 3,000 photos and have been going over them trying to pick a few "best ones" to share with the Exuma Sailing Club but that's taking a few days of work as well.  Anyway that's what i've been up to recently.  I plan to stay here because it's almost time for the ISLAND FAMILY REGATTA and i have the inside track for getting on the race boat to take photos then!  (the island regatta is a very big deal)

Prodigal is the white boat on the right.
Emit, a TINY 9yoa who won the Opti class overall.

A squall blew through and the kids sailed on!
