Home again, home again..... jiggity jig
I'm in the parking lot of McDonald's in Alchua, Fl. (sounds like a sneeze) I left Signal Mtn yesterday morning about 10:15am. Russell had 'late start to school because of the hurricane' going through with some wind and rain. Tommy cooked a pancake breakfast and we had a going away party - FOR ME.
Unfortunately the traffic through Atlanta and then on down south was VERY heavy, so I arrived at Valdosta GA about 7pm. I grabbed a bite at a Cracker Barrel there then spent the night @ Wendy Colson's house. The entire neighborhood was without power due to a downed pine tree knocking out the lines down the block. But we didnt need lights to sleep so it was not a problem at all. Wendy has a gasoline generator so he cranked that up to make coffee in the morning then off I drove.
Here is a photo of Wendy and his dad.
Now I'm near Gainesville FL on I-75 south travelling in very heavy traffic. I'm just hoping to get home before dark. All along the drive I have seen Tree trimming and Electric bucket trucks. Some were from as far away as Missouri. I guess they are headed down to the keys to help fix things?
The only thing i saw more than bucket trucks were Hurricane Evacuees.
UPDATE: I arrived at the marina at 3:30pm to see a lovely floating boat. BUT the dock does not have electric yet. The marina and the Clubhouse both have power so i hope to get the power and AC back on tomorrow? For now I'm upstairs in the clubhouse typing in the air-conditioning.
Safe travels to all my fellow Hurricane Evacuees.
