Prodigal is up on stands and I'm on hold

I'm scheduled to launch Prodigal tomorrow at 8am.  Today they only had the 2pm time slot and that would be low tide.  I need to catch high tide and also slack tide to get back into my slip at City Marina.  So, the work is done but i'm on hold for a day awaiting my chosen launch time.

Shawn moves the stands so John can paint.
I stick my hands on the 'old' paint to see if it's still ablative.

A few small dings on the rudder are filled & painted.

Next thing on the to-do list will get started next week.       -Skip

I am curious, is there anything that they can put in the paint that will reduce the amount of growth that accumulates/sticks? They have those sorts of things for home interior paint ... I wonder if the same thing could apply for boat paint? Of course, interior paint isn't being continuously bombarded by all forms of underwater debris.

Great Question Ryan. short answer YES. there are things they CAN add to reduce growth. BUT the USA limits additives because it can adversely effect the environment. In other countries you can buy paint with copper in it as an additive. I talked to my friend Ray (earlier post: tranny) who added several pounds of 'black pepper' to his paint to reduce growth...

Mostly you buy the best you can and live with it. This paint cost $299 per gallon. I'm buying the best i can. *Plus i'm adding monthly bottom cleanings to my to-do list. (I'll hire a diver to clean the bottom every month to keep it clean. Like mowing your yard.)
