In the classic battle of good and evil,
we got our butts kicked today!
Yesterday i got the 4 diesel fuel lines replaced from the fuel pump to the injectors. BUT, there were two tiny little drips. some diesel was dripping down into the bilge. So today project number one - tighten the two fuel lines. It didnt work as planned. (Evil) when carefully tightening the last one, the 'copper washer in the banjo fitting slipped' creating a bigger leak. [*It's the one in the back, on the bottom, that you cant get to.] So tomorrow i'll start my leaky engine and motor over to the city docks and tie up to pull the fuel pump and see what else might be needing some love. 'In theory' it's no big deal. (except it's a boat - an old boat - and everything is a big deal.)
THE GOOD: The New raw water strainer is working and it's COLD down below with the AC running. So my crocodile tears are cool running down my cheek.
I have no idea realistically what this does to a timeline for departure and wont entertain the thought till the fuel lines, and fuel pump, are back installed. After i get tied up to the city dock and we get it ripped apart and can see what / if any / parts are needed, i'll know more. Could be hours, or days.
I think that's about my day. I was pretty bummed out earlier when 'it' happened, but i'm better now.
*NOTE: i have a shout out to Tommy Bonds who asks, "are you listening to any good music, and how long have you lived on your boat?" well "GOOD" is in the ear of the beholder! But i have fallen onto this local station that caters to water people. WOYS the Oyster Radio in Apalachicola. As for how long on the boat, i bought the boat after Hurricane Ike, late October 2008. I think that's about eight years next month. Wow time flies sometimes, and sits still here in Apalachicola.
My sister Lynn asks how big is my refrigerator? (she's been on the boat, she just likes to ask questions) Lynn it's 19"w x 24"L x 24"D considered pretty good size by small boat standards. I think the question should be how much ice cream can i hold in the separate freezer? not much, it gets eaten!

PS. i forgot this funny story. the last few days it's been raining almost non-stop. certainly every time i get off the boat it has rained. so i have taken to carrying a large black industrial trash bag folded inside my backpack in case i get caught in a downpour. plus i roll up my raincoat and carry it inside the backpack. i put my phone and wallet inside a ziplock bag. Ergo i look like a homeless person walking down the street with my raincoat on and carrying a black trash bag over my shoulder, sopping wet from head to toe. The last two times i have gone out to eat i arrived at the restaurant in this fashion. Well, let's just say the hostess is at a loss whether to turn me away or help me change clothes. i had one sort of bar the door, blocking me with her body, as she points at my trash bag and asks, "what's in the bag?" (imagine them asking you that when you arrived - what's in your purse?) i laughed when it dawned on me how 'homeless' i must appear. i told them, "i'm on a boat." that seems to answer most things around here. 'Please forgive me, I'm on a boat!' (maybe Tee Shirts?)
