Home Alone and the quiet

I went on a big bike ride Yesterday.

I decided yesterday to take the bicycle to shore and see what George Town had to offer.  I rode south till i got out of town and then rode some more.  When i got tired i stopped for a can of juice at a little restaurant-bar named 'Cheaters.'  (i asked about the name but the lady only knew "its the name.")  After my rest i rode north.  In town, which circles Lake Victoria with a single one lane - one way - rode, i stopped for lunch.  I asked a little old man walking down the street where his favorite place was for lunch.  My smartest move all day.  He pointed out a little spot down the street.
I got the Curry Chicken.  Comes with either; rice, peas and rice, fries.  Plus a choice of 2 veggies.  i chose salad and corn.  It also had slaw, mac and cheese and something else...   $13.44 was the price.

Anyway back to the bike ride.  During my travels i saw a police car and flagged it down.  I asked the patrolman where i might lock my bike on shore instead of carrying it to and from the boat.  he suggested in front of the Police Station.  So i locked it to the light pole directly in front of the station.  More on that as it happens, or hopefully doesn't.

Nephew Ryan arrives today and he requested Conch.  So I found this boat on the pier and bought 4 conch for $12.  These friendly guys cleaned them for me.  Yum!

I would love to sit and visit, but i am anxious to get to shore and see if my bike is still there!  -Skip

George Town - home alone

Cousin Rick has left the building!

Rick caught a ride share Taxi to the airport and flew back to Tyler Texas.  He was a great hand aboard and will be sorely missed by all.  (now i'll have room in the fridge for milk instead of just beer)

I bought a small 10 oz bag of Tostitos scoop chips.  (Walmart price $2.98 USA.)  Bahamas price $7.08 plus tax.  I'm finding things here are also Priceless!  But hey, a Pirates gotta eat!
They have 'FREE' water at the grocery store dock.  (.35c/gal. if you buy it elsewhere)  But today i waited about an hour to reach the faucet with all the crowds.  I guess i better either make water or time my visits in less busy times?
Pretty well stocked shelves.  Except NO Milk.  "we get a boat on Wednesday afternoon."

I heard two guys talking yesterday.  One asked the other, "what is that town across over there?"  The second guy laughed and said, "that's not a town.  those are all boats anchored out."  It's about 290 boats anchored around the harbor.  (the count changes daily as some go north and some go south)

I think i'll just go to bed.  G'night.        - skip

George Town and Ricks last day

Rick flies home tomorrow so today we did all his favorite things.
Eat and Drink! Eat and Drink! Eat and Drink!

We attended the Chat and Chill Pig Roast lunch.
It was a lot of fun and very delicious.
Great people watching too...  I met groups from Sweden, Germany and even Canada.  Turns out that on Sunday the resorts nearby ferry their groups over to the island for the entertainment using the local water taxi. ($20 round trip, $15 one way)  So the traditional dirty, scroungy boat people were rubbing elbows with the washed and beautiful for the day.  Fun and very very beautiful.

where the boat people arrive
While watching a very competitive volley ball game, this 3 year old created a game stopping scare.  His dad said, "i think he stole someones food?"  to which another replied, "well aren't you going to do anything?"  His response, "Hell NO.  If they cant watch their food, i cant stop a hungry 3yr old."

Oops.  forgot to mention that it's Regatta season.  They had some races this morning and I got out in the middle of it in Prodigal.  I decided to move across the anchorage and drop over near town so the dinghy rides for Cousin Rick and Ryan would be less dramatic.  After Ryan arrives I'll move again.  Back across the harbor near the beach and away from the actual town. (maybe)

It's great to be safely anchored and through with that part of the journey.  Now i'll celebrate by doing laundry and cleaning up from where everything was thrown* during the many days at sea.
(*one example: my little kitchen timer sits up on a shelf to monitor the entire galley.  I found it back in the aft cabin where it landed after falling, rolling, bouncing.  The face to the timer was up in the main salon.  How they got separated and traveled opposite directions is beyond me.  I do realize it took an eight foot bounce off the cabinet.  To remedy this i applied velcro to both surfaces and she now sits way up on her ledge with face reattached as happy as can be.)

But for now it's late and I'm tired.  So I'll check the anchor and the lights, then crawl into bed a tired happy Pirate.           -Skip
