Fort Pierce, Florida

Where there's smoke, there's fire.  Where there are firemen and women and hoses and water, there's confusion...

This was a "new guy" training session on the back lot of the Avenue D Fire Station.  I was the one confused.  The Instructor suggested I move back because I was sitting too close.  I sat down on the sidewalk leaning against the lamp pole at a distance I thought was far enough.  As soon as I moved they started dragging out and dropping hose, all the way up to where I had been sitting.

Note: see the light pole where I was sitting and my bicycle further right where I put it "so it was way beyond where they would be working."   (wrong Mr Wetbutt)

Another Crazy Day in Florida

Today I ran across this interesting sign.
I've eaten here once. The sign is accurate and to the point!

What's UP?

Boat Chores aint done yet...  but I'm working!

I've been busy recently trying to get all my pre-travel boat chores done.  The plan is to sail the boat to Texas in June and put Prodigal on the market for sail.  After 13 years it's time to move back on land.  But first there are a few things to get finalized.

Here is my to-do list:

- chart plotter  (the big screen) it stopped showing our GPS location.  Needed a new control/mother board. Repaired in Ft Lauderdale for $700.  I just reinstalled it last week. (technician labor $300)

 - compass  (note: low oil level in the bubble) it got so low it didnt work.  replaced it for $550.

- hatch covers  / on order via local vendor  ($200)

- dinghy trim  / i'm working on this - slowly  ($50)

- freezer  / it stopped working this week.  I got a new controller yesterday via UPS.  Hopefully the AC guy can work me into his busy schedule soonest.   (part $250 + labor)

- forward head & holding tank  / I have this scheduled and parts purchased.  (parts $650 + labor)

- aft macerator  / tbd  (something just aint right.  I'm checking on it)

- wind indicator  (top center)  it's been acting "flaky" lately and is intermittent. (it worked fine yesterday, but didnt last week when i tried it)  I'm on their schedule...    ($???)

- dentist  / I cracked a tooth and got a crown this week.  Not boat work, but gotta get done. ($1,300)

Well that's about it.  Everything but the kitchen sink...  Except that also needs work.  The faucet hose has sprung a leak.  So when you pull out the faucet hose to rinse dishes it sprays all over the galley.  Crap!  Oh well, put it on the list.  (the part is warranty and being shipped here currently.  $0)

Have a Great Day and I hope nothing else needs work!       -Skip
