Mezcala, a Mexican small town just a bus ride away.

A day visit to Mezcala, a very small rural town. Nobody spoke English, not even me.

It's an easy trek.  Just board the bus in Ajijic. Change buses in Chapala (and get on the correct bus) and ride to Mezcala.  (Mess-cal)  Yes, I boarded the wrong bus but after asking the driver to confirm he directed me to the other bus sitting beside me.

This has been a strange week.  When I arrived back in May, I didn't feel any pressure to hurry and accomplish things.  I knew I had three months.  Now, this week I am feeling anxious to finish all my plans, to see the last of the sights.  This trip to Mezcala has been on my list for weeks.  I wanted to travel EAST and see a rural small town.  It did not disappoint.
The bus ride from Chapala to Mezcala was pretty spirited.  We went up and down over the mountains from Ajijic over across to the lake again in Mezcala.  As we flew down the steep hills around twisting curves I decided it was where I was going to die in a fiery crash.  As my luck held we made it safely.

This little cutie was wearing the silver spangle jacket in earlier photos.  When I was down on the Malecon I asked her, "Donde esta Comida?" (where is lunch) She took me by the hand and walked me down the sidewalk to her mothers lunch stand.  The slightly older sister took my order and brought my food and drink, then my bill and change.  I was the only diner, and was surrounded by kids who considered me quite the novelty.  The food was spectacular and the service was great.  I over tipped.

My lunch: Enchiladas.  45pesos ($2.66US) DELICIOUS!

I enjoyed the Mexican bus rides everywhere throughout my stay.  It was a treat to see Mezcala and a REAL Mexican town, compared to Ajijic which is a very 'Americanized' location.  Almost everyone in Ajijic speakes English.  I found ONE person in Mezcala who spoke English.  Thank goodness I had three months to practice my Spanish before going.  If I had tried this earlier in my travel I would not have done so well.
