Monday is travel day. Dec 20, 2010

sunset on Playa Coco
a pretty surfer just returning via boat from witches rock. (where we tried to drive to. several surfers get together to pool their money and hire a boat for the day $300US to take them the 7miles around the coast instead of the 1 1/2 hr drive and then the mud.)
a bat resting in the Hacienda.

a shot of our rental 'thinking'.
a fisherman having breakfast
the view from his porch.

Sunday Night:
Well darn it. i'm wiped out now and too tired to write. we did 'try' to reach the perfect beach today. (try) they have some very bad roads in the park and we had to turn back before the beach. Some other larger vehicles made it through the mud, but our tiny rental was too scared to try. (the 'clunk', slam, grind sound of their transmission and undercarraige hitting the rocks made our rental very restless.)

more later. Happy H0liday!

Monday Morning:
i fell asleep before i could hit send last night... now it's 6am and i'm up, sitting pool side with some coffee ready to finish my post. (duhh) after we didnt get all 14 kilometers through the muddy rough ruts to the beach Playa Naranjo we stopped by the "old Hacienda" a museum i the park. it's a famous spot to the Costa Ricans because it was here that the C.R. army repelled an invasion from Nicaraguan dictator back in 1955.

Now it's time for breakfast, shower and pack. then drive the rental car (transmission still intact) back to it's home and get to the airport for my return flight to the world. I should have stayed at least a week longer. i have not yet shaken the "feel of work" from my system. i have really enjoyed being a tourist here, but i have not relaxed enough to feel refreshed. maybe a week of Christmas Carols will do that?

All the best and a very Happy Holiday from the pirate!

Sunday, Last Day. CR. 12.19

Well it's 7am and i'm up enjoying some fresh Costa Rican coffee.
Today we will drive north to a national park to the "surf camp" for more photos and our last adventure of the trip. (tomorrow we fly home) It's written to be a difficult drive. (what does that mean? the road yesterday was a 'normal' drive.) you have to have 4x4 today. no stores out there. no nothing but surf. Witches Rock the best surf spot in Costa Rica.

Yesterday we drove south down the coast to Tamarindo to see some surf. Notice the hostile driving conditions through the rivers and try to imagine the ruts and pot holes along this "scenic drive." *yes, this is the road. Tamarindo is much more developed and very busy with tourists, surfers, hippies and hotels. it has a real carnival atmosphere.

Happy Holiday and a very Merry Christmas from all the Pirates.
