Maastrict, an ancient walled city, built in the
middle ages to repel attacking French armies.
The wall was built from 1229 till 1240, over the remains of a
Roman fortress originally built in the 4th century.

The Bastion Waldeck, along with the other 3 bastions,
were built between 1688 and 1690 to guard the Western end of the city.
The city of Maastricht is a Unversity town, so you see kids everywhere.

In the year 1500 the city built another, second wall, further out with 40 guard towers.
Inside the wall are numerous churches.
