San Miguel 12.22

Sat 12.22

It’s another – PERFECT – beautiful day. Sunny and warm! (warm should be written = ‘perfect’ temperature. It truly could not be better.)

I am sitting now in a corner bistro. Tin Tin Pie. It’s a small grill that also has patio seating, with both areas across the street from each other. So the waitresses run back and forth all day as everyone wants to sit out in the early sun under the large ‘pool’ umbrellas. I was told they have wireless internet, but I cant seem to get it to work for my laptop. At least the view is splendid and I’m only a block from the other internet café and 2 blocks from my hotel. The fear is I will drink coffee faster than I can type and end up too wired to sit still…

my view right now.

Yesterday I truly enjoyed the Tango lesson! Ruth is a dancing machine…. She also took turns with two of her daughters, spelling each other for breathers between sets. The teacher arrived with his CD’s, very professional and all business. I have absolutely no idea anything he said for over an hour while I watched, but he was both encouraging and informing the three in turn. Sometimes he would stop, turn off the music and slowly explain some detailed step or twirl, then the other two would ‘jabber’ away in Spanish and point with exaggerated excitement. Everyone had a splendid time. A friend of Ruth’s stopped by and said (in English) that if she tried those moves she would break a hip. The TANGO is a very intricate dance where the male leads and almost tangles up and trips his partner. It’s tricky the way they trade steps sometimes actually stepping over the others leg. I envision myself attempting it and large domino effect occurring with everyone in a pile on the floor. The class though made it fluid and a work of art. This is a weekly class. Ruth gets so excited and obviously enjoys it. (“tomorrow is Tango, you really must come.”)

That’s about all I did for the day. After Tango I ran through the internet café then back down to the Jardin. I envisioned sitting on a bench reading my book, but spent the time taking photos and eating another bowl of Aztec soup. (I see it on the menu at Tin Tin and will try theirs too) Finally I made it into the church without a service or a wedding going on and got a few shots inside. I’ll schedule another visit there when I can take my tripod and flash. All these visits are within about 3 city blocks of my hotel. I’m in the center of things. Yesterday about 8am a boy of about 12 walked down the street by my hotel ringing a bell. (a ½ thick piece of steel about 14” long x 2” wide that he struck with a short piece of rebar) the noise was incredible clang, clang, clang vibrating up from all the tall walls and cobbled streets. Following him was the city trash truck. So, all the doors along the street open up and the trash is carried out to the curb. The city here is a living breathing thing.

My downfall was stopping for a Margarita on the way home from the square. I intended to get back and write for the BLOG. Instead I ran headlong into happy hour. (2 for 1) IT’S A TOUGH JOB… but I’m just the person for it!

Dinner was more ‘mexican food.’ This time stir fry chicken and veggies with rice followed by a delicious banana cream pie.

Have not decided what I’ll do today. Probably take more photos! Oh, by the way, the Realtor trip yesterday was a bust. Alex and Janet brought their two daughters so we / they had more than a car full. I was able to see one house very near the Realtor office. 3/2/0 small space with not too modern furnishings. Asking price $690,000US. I think it had about 300k overprice because it’s one block from the Jardin. Thanks again Alex and Janet for sharing the adventure!

Gotta run now. It’ll get hot by noon and I need to work in a nap today. Have been having way too much fun and have not finished book #1 yet. All good here.

HAPPY HOLIDAY!!! Xo Skip
