JULY 2021

What a long strange trip it's been.
This all started late in May when I drove over to Texas to pick up crew.  All of June and July have been spent in transit & finalizing Prodigal for sale.

#1.) Texarkana TX where i drove the Uhaul.

#2.) in Searcy, AR where i offloaded the truck into storage.  Staying with Pearly the cat.

#3.) a quick stopover in Rogers, AR to visit Cam and Robin Prock. (far RT) as Cam loads up his bicycle to go with L-R: Larry, Jack, Kip, Gerard, Cam to ride across Iowa.  RAGBRA with ~30,000 riders!

#4.) McAlester, OK to visit my older brother Steve and his family.

#4.) North Dallas to visit John and Jodi.
Plus a visit with Katie, my tax lady.
Finally a very quick stop to see David Cox, the mermaid man.

#5.) Collin Street Bakery for an Apple Pie!  (because it's there)

#6.) A weekend trip to Boerne TX, Tapatio Springs Resort to visit my college frat bros.

But ....  Prodigal?
(she's now on the brokers dock with signs on her and listed up on the web at their webpage. Little Yacht Sales)
After we got Prodigal to Kemah at the end of June, I worked on emptying her of all my posessions.  Next I rented the Uhaul truck and carried everything, while dragging my car, up to Arkansas and into storage.  Lastly I went on a whirlwind tour visiting family and friends.  Now I'm back in Kemah tying the ribbon into a pretty bow.  Soon to depart on yet another adventure.  (I'm just not sure what)

I'm still in Texas, but only just...

Hauling Boat Stuff to Arkansas to marry it up with my old house stuff in storage.

I got a Uhaul truck and car hauling trailer this morning down in Kemah and drove up to Texarkana.  Technically I'm still in Texas, but I'm close enough to 'call the hogs.'  I'm so tired though that I'll just brush my teeth and get some sleep.

My day started at 7am with the alarm clock and packing the car at Craig and Angela's house in League City.  (thanks again for the great hospitality) First stop Uhaul for the truck and then the storage unit to get all the boat stuff loaded.  Next step is to drive back to the Uhaul place to get my car and load it onto the silly hauler.  (note: Uhaul does "not load cars, but will share a You Tube video for the customer to do it themselves.")  *that news alarmed me!  Turns out Uhaul does not want the liability of YOUR car falling off and sliding down the road to kill someone!  The more i drive the little trailer the more i realize it's a piece of shit...  (pardon my French)  The Uhaul lady, Christine, told me, "check the tie down straps every time you stop."  I think she should have told me, 'pull over OFTEN and check the shitty straps.'  I stopped for lunch and noticed the car was kind of "sideways."  Turns out the left strap had worked loose and the car slid on the carrier.  I spent an hour in the hot sun, on my back, in a parking lot removing the car and then putting it all back on STRAIGHT.  Now my new routine is set and alarm and pull over every hour to check the straps.

I got my new shirt oily and dirty crawling on the ground attaching safety chains under the car frame.  My new bright yellow shirt.  I cussed.  Then when i got back into the truck feeling proud and very sweaty and hot I found an email from Citibank Mastercard.  Fraud Alert.  "we noticed suspicious activity..."  But there's no contact info to find out what it's about.  Just two boxes;  YES  or NO.  Do you recognize the charge?  I clicked no and drove on.  Stopped 2 hours later for gas and my CARD, my Citibank Mastercard would no longer work.  (I'm sure you have already guessed the punchline) I am now driving down some back roads in East Texas on Hwy59, using my knee to steer while I try to read microscopic numbers on the back of my card...  Short version: they cancelled my card.  Slightly longer version: i spoke with some guy in India, then after being unable to understand ANYTHING he said, i hung up and tried again.  I got Maine next.  "like the state" she said.  I cussed and she repeated the same mantra, "there's nothing we can do.  We will send you a letter in 5-7 days to verify your address."  (a letter to Florida?)  I admit it was innappropriate to scream at her.  Sorry.  Next call was with Mary.  Same song and dance.  same script, same list of questions.  the only difference is Mary was with the fraud department.  She suggested she could 'send me a letter in 5 days to Florida to verify my address.'  (i apologize for cussing her too)  I was able to squeeze another phone number out of Mary and got George on the phone.  He was also with the fraud dept.  He was very helpful and courteous.  he appologized for both, well for everyone at Citibank.  Then he informed me, "we are cancelling your card and sending you a new one.  To your address in Florida."  (i also apologize for yelling at George)

Some day I'll have a new Mastercard and then I'll have to change all my banking info.  Change all my direct pays.  I apologize in advance If / when you hear me cussing in that future!

Tomorrow I'll drive up to Searcy and unload the truck.  Aint life fun!

PRODIGAL is empty and for sale

I finally got everything moved off Prodigal.

Here is my 'stuff ' moved into Dave Damm's storage.  (he and sue are in MN for the month and he graciously offered me the use of his space for my removal)  *note the metal safe in the left foreground.  it rusted in the salty environment of 13 years at sea.  so i'm refurbishing it.
the rusted area is sprayed with with Ospho to stop the rust.

rusted out holes are filled with epoxy

last its textured and painted. (just like new! ha ha)

while i'm messing with the boxes and the safe, another crew is washing and waxing Prodigal.
Like New!

cleaning those 'hard to reach' areas.

Monday morning I'll go pick up a Uhaul truck to haul my crap away....  It never ends!

SubT-16 and all is well 2021

Tapatio Golf Resort - boerne tx
a bunch of old guys 40+ years post college and still full of it.

getting this photo was truly a job of herding cats....

Now I'm back in Kemah, TX and totally moved off the boat.  The cleaning crew is hard at work and the yacht broker has taken posession of the vessel.  I am trying to take care of loose ends and figure out the next step in lifes grand adventure.  First, go find a Uhaul truck to haul all my crap away....

The Prodigal Packing Plan is coming along.... slowly

I didnt realize how much crap I had accumulated aboard till I had to pack it up and carry it off.

Plus, as usual, there are some boat repairs....  both AC's crapped out on me last week.  The refrigerator stopped cooling.  The Waterheater refused to heat. My feet hurt and my eyes are blue....   Where will it all end?

Imagine the luck.  The aft AC crapped out on Friday of Memorial Day weekend when nobody would come out and fix it and I didnt have time to get'er done prior to departure on this trek. The Fridge stopped cooling two days offshore from Texas way out in the Gulf at 9pm.  The forward AC stopped working on Friday afternoon of the 4th weekend.  It appears my Christmas Miracles are not working on other holidays!

Acid bath to clean the Forward AC coils.
An $11 part craps out on the fridge.  The control panel replaced on the aft AC.  It's cool again!

Now I'm busy putting all my stuff into boxes and getting it off the boat so she can clean up and sell.

PS: since starting the packing and major massive move I've attended a Pie Making competition and did my part tasting and judging...  and a college frat gathering.

AND this weekend I drove over to Boerne Texas and the Tapatio Resort for a College Frat Gathering.  40 years later and we still all just a bunch of stupid jackass.
The bar in Charles room
gathering on the patio before dinner

Cant write more now.  I have a golf tee time to run to.....   (yikes!)
