Wild Horses

'Wild, wild horses couldn't drag me away....'

Sunday while walking along the Malecon at the lake, a lady said, "there's a Colt down there."  So, naturally I had to go find it.  Had to get the perfect photo.

Note: the rock wall along the lakefront, that's where I fell.  I wanted to get closer to the Colt without spooking it, so what else do you do except slowly, sneakily, walk along the wall at the lakes edge.
I got this photo and then carefully, slowly, so as not to 'spook' the Colt, I took delicate little tiny steps down from the broken wall. On my last step I met a slick rock and flipped sideways over the wall, down into the lake sand. I was less than graceful in my face plant.  My camera got a little sandy and so did I.  The Colt DID get startled!  They all three ran off a little way. I slowly hobbled the other direction, knocking sand off myself and assuring bystanders that I was OK.  (how do you say, "I'm so embarrassed" in Spanish?)
What photographers look like!

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Now it's a couple of days later and my ribs are still pretty sore.  I'm not sure if, "I feel like I got kicked by a mule, or like I fell off a horse!"

Lunch Anyone?

Suzy's Taco it's what's up!  I got the word two years ago on my last visit.  Suzy still has it going on!

I don't always have tacos for lunch.  But when I do, I like Suzy's.

And then it RAINED...

In Ajijic there are two distinct seasons.  The Dry Season and the Wet Season.  Can YOU guess the difference?  Yes, it's the cooling glorious rain.

Yesterday it finally clouded up and last night it rained.  We are in the high desert, so this is a very special thing.  It knocks down the dust, cools off everything, and turns the landscape green and flowered.

Internet Info:  "The Chapala Lake basin has a year-round average temperature of about 19 °C (66 °F). Due to Ajijic's tropical latitude and relatively high elevation*, it is seldom unpleasantly hot or humid. The rainy season begins in June and lasts until October."
*[relatively high elevation = Ajijic 5,046ft and Denver 5,280ft]

Compare 1 day and < .14" rain Ajijic,
and 5 days > 2"  in Florida.

Rain is a very big deal down here.

Ajijic Mexico home to everyone

Ajijic sits nestled up against Lake Chapala surrounded by mountains.  Guadalajara is 4.5M, while Ajijic is about 7,000ppl.

With mountains on one side and the lake on the other, all the little towns and villages are strung out in a straight line.  The road runs east and west, (except to go north to Guadalajara.)  Each little local has a different flavor, Catholic Church and town square.  If you've seen one, you have not seen them all.  You've only seen one!

2 internet photos of aerial views.

One town, one Catholic Church.  Lots to go!

My Walk back to WalMart on a Tuesday

Guamúchil fruit is a native Mesoamerican fruit, also known as Pithecellobium dulce, Camachile, or Manila Tamarind. It is a sweet and slightly bitter fruit that comes in the form of thin, curly pods. The fruit has a soft, meaty texture and a taste that is described as a mix of apple, pineapple, and peach, with a hint of coconut.

I saw a lady poking a long stick way up into a tree yesterday.  She was knocking down little bean looking things. You take out the white fruit and remove the seed.  You eat the white fruit.
This lady is selling them in the street.
