Refrigerator Repair - BLIND LEADER?
BOAT CHORES? heck yeah..... A boating friend - David Dam (not damn) helped me work on my Refreigerator today. It stopped cooling - after working fine for two years.
This was the Blind leading the Blind. Although i give Dave credit for reading up on AirConditioner Repair. he also did lots of research on the internet and visited an AC repair wholesale shop asking questions and getting "his BA degree" equivalent, in hands on knowledge.
We borrowed a vacuume pump from my 'boat next door' neighbor Warren. (who i helped last july to get his 'Submarine' boat to the Bahamas) The vacuum pump is to remove all the oxygen so no moisture can get in the line.
Next we installed - via a AC tool - the two gauges and 3 hoses thing.- a can of 'stop leak' to patch any leaks in the system. This was followed by a few pounds of R12 refrigerant. (this is very difficult to find as this is destroying the ozone layer and Al Gore wont let me buy this anymore)
Many thanks to Dave and Warren. the ice box seems to be frozen and the milk is cold. i'll keep monitoring it but hope it's gonna run another two years without incident.
more to follow as it happens. -Skip
