Dia de Muertos

 The Day of the Dead

goes on for several days down here!

______________

"On November 1, families gather to remember los angelitos, the young souls lost in infancy, and again on November 2 for All Souls' Day, to honor those who passed later in life. These are the days for placing votive candles, fresh flowers, and other last-minute offerings on the tombs.  Some will time their visits to attend memorial mass, praying for the departed to be freed from purgatory and find eternal peace in the glory of the Heavenly Father.  It is a time for solace and the annual release of pent-up grief."

___________

This weekend I also saw a poster about a 'day for the lost Pets.'

"In recent decades people have also set up personalized altars in their homes or patios.  Dia de Muertos alter displays in schools and public venues.  The movement to preserve authentic traditions has become deeply ingrained in Mexican society."
